Orchardgrass is a deep-rooted, fast growing, long-lived, cool season perennial bunch grass. Often used in conjunction with forage legumes and other grasses like timothy or perennial ryegrass in a pasture or hay management program, but can produce successful crops on its own with proper fertilization. Orchardgrass tolerates shading better than other grasses and has good winter hardiness when properly managed. Continuous production of vegetative tillers gives this orchardgrass the ability to recover quickly after cutting.
