High-Carbon Steel Forstner Bit Metric / 40 mm
For my purposes, this bit worked great. I am building a mini workbench from pine. I used a 3/4" Diablo auger bit to drill the dog holes. Lots of blowout, and the sides of the holes were all chewed up and looked terrible. So, I got this 1" Forstner to reem out the 3/4" wholes and enlarge them to 1" diameter. Worked a treat. Hole sides are perfect. Very little blowout when going slow. Would have been zero blowout if I had used a scrap piece under each hole. Keep in mind I was only drilling through soft pine and was only removing about 1/8" from the sides.

High-Carbon Steel Forstner Bit Imperial / 3/4"
I bought the Woodriver and Freud Precision Shear Forstner bits to compare. The Freud bit is far superior in drilling a hole way more than twice as fast. The Woodriver got very hot while only drilling a 1/3 of the way through a 3/4-inch maple board, while the Freud drilled the full depth and was only warm. The Woodriver bit had all the edges ding and dull, whereas all the Freud edges were crisp and sharp (would easily cut you, take care). At a cost difference of only $3, it is not worth my time or wearing out my stones to repair the Woodriver edges. Dings take a fair amount of grinding to remove. Also, the chipper relief angle seemed shallow (considerably lower than Freud's). Increasing the chipper angle might improve cutting speed, but would require a fair amount of work.

Not worth it, even at a huge discount. Even after sharpening, could barely scratch a wood with janka ~1400.

It wouldn't cut white oak directly out of the package. It was creating small chips instead of shavings. After using a small diamond file to sharpen the blades it cut like butter.

Drilled 5 2&3/4 inch holes into the end grain of four boards. By the time I got to the last one the bit was toast and it took all muscle to finish. Will stick the main brands and bite the bullet on price difference

High-Carbon Steel Forstner Bit Imperial / 1-1/16"
I bought one of these to cut holes in douglas for, not hardwood. I don't have a drill press, so I used a drill guide. This bit doesn't cut. I actually had to check and make sure my drill was spinning in the right direction. I had to put such pressure on it to get it to cut that my holes were wandering and I was not able to get a plumb hole, even with the guide. I ended up using a diablo bit that I bought at Home Depot which worked perfectly.

If you're handy with a file and you know what you're doing this can be fixed fairly easy. The cutting face is trash, the center pin is not centered, a couple teeth are straight up missing, and a few of the rest have serious burs. That being said, it's 20 bucks... If you know even the tiniest bit about how to finish steel, and how these bits work then it's a decent money saving purchase. If you need quality right out of the package then you are just going to have to pay more than this. A little file and sandpaper work though and it's a decent bit, just not great.
