Turn a Lidded Box

Participant will learn and make a lidded box. You will learn selection of wood paying particular attention to the grain pattern. Tool selection for shaping and hollowing using both HSS and Carbide tools. Using a four jaw chuck to make tenons on both base and lid. Hollowing both the box and lid. Cutting both mortise and tenon making sure the lid and box fit correctly. There will be a break for lunch and many restaurants are near by.

Introduction to Bowl Turning

Participant will learn how to select wood based on species and grain orientation. How to mount the wood using two different technics. You will learn the difference between High Speed Steel and Carbide as well as the pros and cons of each. Learn how to select the right tool for the turning and shaping of the bowl. Preparing the sides and face for shaping. Shaping the bowl and hollowing the inside. Finally comes the sanding and finishing. There will be a break for lunch and many restaurants are near by.
